SCALE in partnership with the Faculty of Engineering offers BTech programme in Engineering disciplines. These programmes are accredited by the relevant engineering bodies, and taught by highly qualified Engineering faculty members using first-class laboratory facilities in NUS.

To apply for admissions to the BTech Programmes, you should have the following:

  • Be at least 21 years old.
  • Polytechnic Diploma in a relevant field of Engineering or equivalent local / foreign qualifications.
  • Fulfil one of the following:
    • have at least 2 years of full-time work experience; OR
    • have fully discharged their National Service (NS) liability; OR
    • are currently employed on a full-time basis.
    Part-time employment will not be considered as full-time work experience. A part-time employee is one who works for less than 35 hours a week, under contract of service with an employer.
  • Any evidence of additional post-diploma academic preparation, including the advanced diploma, specialist diploma and SAT I Test, will be advantageous.
  • Availability of company sponsorship will be advantageous.
  • Applicants may be required by the Admissions Committee to sit for entrance examinations to fulfil admission requirements.

Exemption from the age and work experience requirements may be granted to Singapore Citizens (SC) and Singapore Permanent Resident (SPR) applicants if:

  1. Sponsored by the company for the part-time undergraduate degree programme;
    OR
  2. Currently employed in a job role / sector related to the part-time undergraduate degree programme.

Notwithstanding these exemptions, NS-liable applicants must have fully discharged their full-time NS liability before they can be admitted. Supporting documents(s) must be submitted, together with the admission application, for assessment. NUS reserves the right to determine if exemption would be granted, and the University's decision will be final and binding.

NOTE: For application to Industrial & Management Engineering and Supply Chain Management, those who hold a Polytechnic Diploma or equivalent, in any discipline with evidence of strong mathematical or analytical content, will be considered for admission.


Introduction

The BTech Engineering Preparatory Units (BEPUs), administered by SCALE in NUS, are short, refresher courses specially designed for diploma holders entering tertiary study. These Units are aimed at strengthening the foundation of students in Engineering Mathematics and basic engineering topics so that they will be able to cope better with the BTech Programme, if they are admitted. The syllabi of these Units are designed to be similar to those required for the entrance examinations.

IMPORTANT:
Holders of 2½-year Continuing Education and Training (CET) Part-time Local Diploma in Engineering/Applied Science/Business Practice/Infocomm Technology are required to sign up for the BTech Engineering Bridging Units (BEBUs).

 

Who is eligible?

  • Applicants/Students of the BTech Engineering Programme at NUS
  • Anyone with a polytechnic diploma or equivalent (except for holders of 2½-year Continuing Education and Training (CET) Part-time Local Diploma in Engineering/Applied Science/Business Practice/Infocomm Technology who are required to take up the BEBUs)

  • Deadline to register and make payment for each BEPU fee is 3 working days before the start of the Units.
  • Each Unit comprises a total of 8 lectures and 4 tutorials, each of 3 hours' duration.
  • Should there be more than 1 tutorial sessions available (i.e. morning and afternoon sessions), applicants will be informed via email after the closure of registration, to book their preferred session through a booking portal. Please note that the session that is chosen will apply to all 4 tutorials. For example, if you have chosen the morning sessions, all 4 tutorials will be in the morning and you are not allowed to change/swop class after the booking period is closed. There will be limited seats available for each session and is on a first-come-first-served basis.
  • A Unit may not be offered if there is insufficient number of applicants registering for the Unit.

  • Registration for Units

    If you are interested to register for the BEPUs but did not apply to our BTech or SpC programmes/courses, you may complete the registration form and submit to scale.admissions@nus.edu.sg with the necessary documents. Payment method will be informed via email after your registration form is received. Please note that you are to submit the registration form and make payment of the non-refundable course fee to SCALE as least 3 working days before the course start date.

     

    Certificate

    Applicants who achieve 75% attendance will be issued a Certificate of Attendance upon request.


    Introduction

    The BTech Engineering Bridging Units (BEBUs), administered by SCALE in NUS, are short, intensive courses specially designed for holders of 2½-year part-time engineering diplomas intending to pursue tertiary study. These Units are aimed at strengthening the foundation of students and address curricular preparation or transition in Engineering Mathematics and basic engineering topics so that they will be able to cope better with an Engineering degree programme such as the BTech Programme.

    Who is eligible?

    It is mandatory for holders of 2½-year Continuing Education and Training (CET) Part-time relevant Local Diploma in Engineering/Applied Science/Business Practice/Infocomm Technology

    Compulsory Units To Be Taken

    • Introductory Engineering Mathematics
    • Physical Principles in Engineering
    • One of the Discipline Units (i.e., Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics Engineering or Mechanical Engineering)

    Note:

    • Applicants applying to BTech (Industrial & Management Engineering) and BTech (Supply Chain Management) may choose any of the disciplines offered.
    • The following BTech Engineering programmes offer only ONE intake per AY:
      • January intake: BTech (Chemical Engineering)
      • August intake: BTech (Civil Engineering)

    Fee

    Only Singaporeans and Singapore PRs who meet the subsidy criteria and are considered eligible by the Admissions Committee may enjoy the subsidised fee to attend the BTech Engineering Bridging Units (BEBUs).
    The fees are:

    • $1,220 (for eligible Singapore citizens – after subsidy)
    • $1,660 (for eligible Singapore Permanent Residents – after subsidy)
    • $4,500 (for non-eligible Singapore citizens and Singapore Permanent Residents; and International Students)

    • Note:
      • An applicant is allowed to enjoy the subsidised fee only once.
      • Fee is non-refundable, non-transferable and excludes prevailing GST.
      • Teaching materials will be provided 2 days before the first lesson upon full payment of fee.
      • The course fee is inclusive of the entrance examination fees.
      • BEBUs are not open for application. After you have applied for BTech Engineering programme/s, you will make payment for BEBUs only after you are informed of the amount of fees you are required to pay.

  • Assessments, Results and Certificates

    Each Unit comprises a total of 8 lectures and 4 tutorials, each of 3 hours' duration. Each Unit also includes additional mid-term test, laboratory, assignment components and an end-of-Unit examination and the overall results will be used as a factor for admission selection purpose to the BTech Engineering Programme/s applied to.

    Applicants who attend at least 10 out of the 12 sessions to be issued a Certificate of Attendance upon request.

    • Entrance examination fee is included in the BEPUs and BEBUs fees. Applicants do not need to pay the entrance examination fee if you have registered for the BEPUs or BEBUs.
    • The examination details will be provided 2 working days before the examination date upon full payment of fee.
    • There are no make-up papers if the applicant is unable to sit for the entrance examinations on the arranged dates. Application to the BTech course will be considered withdrawn if an applicant is unable to sit for the entrance examinations as required.
