SCALE in partnership with the Faculty of Engineering offers BTech programme in Engineering disciplines. These programmes are accredited by the relevant engineering bodies, and taught by highly qualified Engineering faculty members using first-class laboratory facilities in NUS.

To apply for admissions to the BTech Programmes, you should have the following:

  • Be at least 21 years old.
  • Polytechnic Diploma in a relevant field of Engineering or equivalent local / foreign qualifications.
  • Fulfil one of the following:
    • have at least 2 years of full-time work experience; OR
    • have fully discharged their National Service (NS) liability; OR
    • are currently employed on a full-time basis.
    Part-time employment will not be considered as full-time work experience. A part-time employee is one who works for less than 35 hours a week, under contract of service with an employer.
  • Any evidence of additional post-diploma academic preparation, including the advanced diploma, specialist diploma and SAT I Test, will be advantageous.
  • Availability of company sponsorship will be advantageous.
  • Applicants may be required by the Admissions Committee to sit for entrance examinations to fulfil admission requirements.

Exemption from the age and work experience requirements may be granted to Singapore Citizens (SC) and Singapore Permanent Resident (SPR) applicants if:

  1. Sponsored by the company for the part-time undergraduate degree programme;
    OR
  2. Currently employed in a job role / sector related to the part-time undergraduate degree programme.

Notwithstanding these exemptions, NS-liable applicants must have fully discharged their full-time NS liability before they can be admitted. Supporting documents(s) must be submitted, together with the admission application, for assessment. NUS reserves the right to determine if exemption would be granted, and the University's decision will be final and binding.


Introduction

The BTech Engineering Preparatory Units (BEPUs), administered by SCALE in NUS, are short, refresher courses specially designed for diploma holders entering tertiary study. These Units are aimed at strengthening the foundation of students in Engineering Mathematics and basic engineering topics so that they will be able to cope better with the BTech Programme, if they are admitted. The syllabi of these Units are designed to be similar to those required for the entrance examinations.

IMPORTANT:
Holders of 2½-year Continuing Education and Training (CET) Part-time Local Diploma in Engineering/Applied Science/Business Practice/Infocomm Technology are required to sign up for the BTech Engineering Bridging Units (BEBUs).

 

Who is eligible?

  • Applicants/Students of the BTech Engineering Programme at NUS
  • Anyone with a polytechnic diploma or equivalent (except for holders of 2½-year Continuing Education and Training (CET) Part-time Local Diploma in Engineering/Applied Science/Business Practice/Infocomm Technology who are required to take up the BEBUs)

  • Physical Principles in Engineering
  • Discipline Units (i.e., Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics Engineering or Mechanical Engineering)

The following BTech Engineering programmes offer only ONE intake per AY:

  • January intake: BTech (Chemical Engineering)
  • August intake: BTech (Civil Engineering) and BTech (Supply Chain Management)

$800 each Unit.

  • Note:
  • Fee is non-refundable, non-transferable and excludes prevailing GST. Materials will be provided on the first lesson upon full payment of fee.
  • Fee is also inclusive of the examination fee for applicant who is shortlisted to sit for compulsory entrance examinations for the admission application to the BTech course applied. Example: If you have registered to attend BPU in Mathematics and are required to sit for compulsory entrance examinations in Mathematics and Electronics, you only need to pay for the entrance examination fee for Electronics.
  • Entrance examination fee is non-refundable and non-transferable for applicant who is not required to sit for the compulsory entrance examination or for applicant who is shortlisted to sit for the compulsory entrance examination but, was absent for the examination on that day.

These Units are aimed at strengthening the foundation of students and address curricular preparation or transition in Engineering Mathematics and basic engineering topics so that they will be able to cope better with an Engineering degree programme such as the BTech Programme.

Holders of 2½-year Continuing Education and Training (CET) Part-time relevant Local Diploma in Engineering/Applied Science/Business Practice/Infocomm Technology

  • One of the Discipline Units (i.e., Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics Engineering or Mechanical Engineering)

Fee

Eligible Singaporeans and Singapore PRs may enjoy subsidy to attend the BTech Engineering Bridging Units (BEBUs) and the fees are:

  • $1,220 (for eligible Singapore citizens – after subsidy)
  • $1,660 (for eligible Singapore Permanent Residents – after subsidy)
  • $4,500 (for non-eligible Singapore citizens and Singapore Permanent Residents; and International Students)
  • Note:
    • Fee is non-refundable, non-transferable and excludes prevailing GST.
    • Teaching materials will be provided on the first lesson upon full payment of fee.
    • Fee is also inclusive of the examination fees for compulsory entrance examinations for the admission application to the BTech course applied.
    • BEBUs are not open for application. After you have applied for BTech Engineering programme/s, you will make payment for BEBUs only after you are informed of the amount of fees you are required to pay.

Assessments, Results and Certificates

Each Unit comprises a total of 8 lectures and 4 tutorials, each of 3 hours' duration (2 lectures and 1 tutorial per week). Each Unit also includes additional mid-term test, laboratory, assignment components and an end-of-Unit examination and the overall results will be used as a factor for admission selection purpose to the BTech Engineering Programme/s applied to.

Applicants must attend at least 10 out of the 12 sessions to be issued a Certificate of Attendance.
