The COVID-19 pandemic presents an unprecedented challenge to the world and to Singapore. The NUS Class of 2020 and 2021 will face considerable uncertainties in entering the job market.

To meet this challenge, NUS has launched the NUS Resilience and Growth (R&G) Initiative for those who earned their undergraduate degrees in 2020 or 2021. This bold initiative is offering more than 1,000 exciting development opportunities during this uncertain time, including continuous education and training opportunities that allow our graduating cohort to grow and future-proof themselves so that they are ready to seize new opportunities once the economy recovers.

General Information

What is the NUS Resilience and Growth (R&G) Initiatives for Continuing Education and Training Catalogue?

A special catalogue of CET courses has been curated for students from the graduating classes of calendar year 2020 and 2021, to help them sharpen their skills sets and be better prepared for good jobs. Topics covered in these courses will range from data literacy, data analytics, business and management to professional communication, writing and job search skills.

This catalogue comprises a mix of modular courses (credit-bearing and stackable) as well as short courses (non-credit bearing and non-stackable).

NUS will also offer certificates for competencies with high market relevance. Examples include data literacy for non-data scientists, small business management for entrepreneurs, finance and accounting for executives, public policy and administration, as well as AI and machine learning.

All NUS full-time undergraduates who graduate in January/June/August in 2020 and 2021 with their first degrees will be given 4 Virtual Vouchers to take up 4 modular courses, OR up to 2 Graduate Certificates OR 4 Executive or Professional Certificates for free.

  1. SSG-funded modular courses
  2. Full-fee modular courses
  3. Modular courses that are part of Graduate Certificates (SSG-funded and full-fee) that are offered in the NUS L3 portal

During the acceptance of offer for a modular course, Executive Certificate or Professional Certificate, Virtual Vouchers available in your balance will be used to redeem against the fees of the programmes. Please note that if you withdraw from the programme after accepting the offer, the Virtual Vouchers would be deemed as being utilised.

When can I start using my Virtual Vouchers?

Please refer to the table above.

Do I have to pay anything for the courses if I use the Virtual Voucher?

You do not have to pay tuition fees. However, a Student Service Fee for the semester is payable when you take NUS L3 modules.

Is the student service fee payable for each module that I take?

The student service fee is a one-time fee for the semester that you are enrolled in the university. This sum is regardless of the number of modules you take in the semester.

Is the student service fee payable for Executive or Professional Certificates?

The student service fee is payable for Executive Certificates made up of credit-bearing courses, and is not payable for Executive and Professional Certificates made up of non-credit-bearing courses.

Is there any expiry to the Virtual Vouchers?

NUS R&G Virtual Voucher Expiration

The R&G Virtual Vouchers for both Class of 2020 and 2021 will expire on 31 March 2024.

  • R&G Virtual Vouchers can only cover courses that start before 1 April 2024.
  • R&G Virtual Vouchers that are unused on 1 April 2024 will be forfeited.
  • Alumni from the Class of 2020 and 2021 who did not use any of their NUS R&G Virtual Vouchers by 31 March 2024 will receive one NUS Voucher for use on NUS non-funded modular courses only. There is no expiry date for NUS Vouchers. For as long as NUS offers non-funded modular courses to NUS alumni under the NUS L3 programme, you will be able to use your NUS Voucher as payment.

Must I apply for all the courses in one semester? Or can I use the Vouchers over a few semesters?

You do not need to apply for courses in just one semester, nor do you need to use all four Vouchers in one semester. You may use the Vouchers over a few semester but please note that all R&G Virtual Vouchers that are unused on 1 April 2024 will be forfeited.

I am not planning to use my vouchers. Can I transfer them to another NUS Year 2020 or 2021 graduate?

Four Virtual Vouchers are awarded to every NUS full-time undergraduate who graduates in January/June/August in 2020 or 2021 with their first degrees, to support their continuing education to better prepare them for the workforce. It is our intent that every individual benefits from this opportunity. In this spirit, Vouchers are non-transferrable.

How do I apply for Graduate Certificate courses?

If you wish to utilise your Virtual Vouchers to take a Graduate Certificate, you will need to apply for the component modular courses at the NUS L3 portal. For example, to earn a Graduate Certificate in Digital Business, you must complete three or the four modules offered:

  • IS5007 Strategising for Global IT-enabled Business Success
  • IS5116 Digital Entrepreneurship
  • IS5117 Digital Government
  • IS5151 Information Security Policy and Management

Hence, you will need to apply for the modules individually through the Online Application Portal > NUS Alumnus (with R&G Voucher) > Modular Course. One R&G Virtual Voucher will cover the tuition fee for one module.

How do I apply for Executive/Professional Certificate courses?

Apply for Executive/Professional Certificate courses through the Online Application Portal > NUS Alumnus (with R&G Voucher).

Click on the Executive Certificate or Professional Certificate buttons to begin.

When can graduates apply for the Professional Certificates courses?

You may apply for Professional Certificate courses in the month following your degree conferment:

  • January 2020 graduate may apply from 1 June 2020
  • April 2020 graduate may apply from 1 June 2020
  • June 2020 graduate may apply from 1 July 2020

  • January/June 2021 graduate may apply from 1 July 2021
  • August 2021 graduate may apply from 1 September 2021

When can graduates apply for the L3 modular courses?

You may apply for L3 courses offered in Semester 1, AY2021/22 (August 2021) if you graduate before August 2021 if you wish to utilise your Virtual Vouchers. If you graduate in August 2021, your Virtual Vouchers can only be applied to L3 courses in Semester 2, AY2021/22 (January 2022).

Will the grades from the L3 modules that I take be reflected on my undergraduate transcript?

You will be issued a separate transcript for modular courses that you take under the L3 programme. Your undergraduate transcript will not be affected.

L3 modular courses are semester-long. If I am unable to complete a course, can I withdraw?

You can withdraw from a modular course. However, please take note of the following implications.

  • Grade Implications: Refer to the Academic Calendar for grade implications on withdrawals.
  • Fee Liability: If the module is SSG-funded, you will be billed the sum of SSG subsidy i.e. 70% of course fee.
  • Virtual Voucher: Once you have accepted the course, the Virtual Voucher is deemed to be utilised. There will be no refund of Voucher with your withdrawal.

Module Information

Pre-requisites for modules

Are there any pre-requisites for the modules? What if I do not meet the pre-requisites?

Modules taken on credit generally have pre-requisites unless otherwise stated. If you do not meet the pre-requisites, but have the relevant qualifications and/or work experience (from an internship for example), you should provide documentary proof to support your application.

Can I read a module hosted by the Faculty/School which I did not graduate from?

You are eligible to apply and you should include information on all your academic qualifications as well as your work experience (such as from an internship) to support your application.

If I have more queries on the module eligibility criteria, who can I contact?

You may enquire with the module Host Faculty/School. Contact information can be accessed here.

Will I be taking modular courses on a Graded basis?

You will take the module on a Graded basis unless you have been offered a module with option to read with Graded or Audit basis. Note that not all modules have such an option. To read a module on Graded basis means that you are required to attend classes and participate in all academic activities including but not limited to, projects, continual assessments, tests, final examinations, etc.

Should I choose to do a module on an "Audit basis" if that option is available for a module I am offered?

Before you decide to take a module on Audit basis, please note that:

  1. Switching of grading basis will not be allowed once you have accepted to be enrolled for the module.
  2. Modules taken on Audit basis are not eligible for SSG funding. You will not be able to use your vouchers and will have to pay the full course fee.
  3. Modules taken on Audit basis cannot be used for consideration of admission to a certification/qualification course.
  4. Modules taken on Audit basis cannot be used to stack towards a certification/qualification.
  5. You will only be able to view the grading basis of the enrolled module in the student system (EduRec) after completing your student registration formalities. Navigate to My Homepage > Academics > Records > View Modules.

Am I able to use the graded modules I have studied to be granted credits/grade transfers (exemptions) towards a programme e.g. Master's Degree?

NUS modules taken and passed earlier can be considered for credit and grade transfers towards the relevant certification/qualification courses if the modules have not been used towards another degree (i.e. Bachelor's, Master's, PhD, and Doctorate).

The grades and MCs of modules taken in Graduate Certificates/Graduate Diploma programmes and individual graduate modules may be transferred to the relevant Master's coursework programme subject to approval by the Faculty/School. Each module should have been completed within the last 10 years.

Faculties/Schools may impose shorter period of validity if necessary, or reject if module is no longer relevant.

Note:

  1. Credit/grade transfer of any SSG-funded module to a MOE-subsidised Graduate Diploma/Bachelor/Master degree is not allowed if the module is taken whilst being enrolled in the Graduate Diploma/Bachelor/Master degree
  2. Credit/grade transfer of any SSG-funded module taken and subsequently requesting to be stacked to a MOE-subsidised Graduate Diploma/Bachelor/Master degree is subject to approval of the Faculty/School and MOE

How do I apply? Is there an application fee?

Application opens in May (for Semester 1) and October (for Semester 2) each year. Check this link for updates.

You can apply via the NUS Online Application Portal. At present, there is no application fee required.

What are the fees payable when enrolled in modular courses?

You will be required to pay tuition fee for module(s) enrolled as well as Student Services Fee (SSF) before the start of the Semester.

If you have balance Virtual Vouchers to pay for the tuition fees, the Virtual Vouchers will be used to redeem against the tuition fees. If you do not have any balance of Virtual Vouchers, you will be required to pay for the tuition fees with cash.

Please note that:

  1. You may check on the eligibility status of the courses, as well as apply to use your SkillsFuture credit at the MySkillsFuture Portal.
  2. SFC may not be used to pay for Student Services Fee (SSF).

When will I be issued the student bill and how do I make payment?
