Programme Overview

The NUS SGUS Programme in International Financial Technology (FinTech) for non-Technical Executives is focused on the financial sector with technological solutioning in mind, and students in the programme can look forward to learning contemporary issues in the financial technology space. You will learn the integration of financial domain know-how (lending, payments, insurance, regulation and management) and technology (front-end and back-end development, cloud systems, blockchain, payment algorithmic trading). All industries depend on FinTech, including but not limited to supply chain, retail, tourism, transportation and more.

Please note that SGUS programmes are intended for mid-career jobseekers affected by the economic consequences of COVID-19. If you are currently employed, you can still enrol in FinTech courses as a company-sponsored employee or self-sponsored individual, but the SGUS programme would not be suitable for you as it requires full-time commitment for 9 months.

Programme Outline

NUS has specially constructed a programme where trainees will receive training not only in the deep skills required for the particular industry (Professional and Technological Literacy), but also in the broad interpersonal skills (Human and Managerial Literacy) and the increasingly important pillar of data and digital skills (Data and Artificial Intelligence Literacy).

Human and Managerial Literacy (1 month)

Professional Certificate in Human and Automated  Managerial Skills

This Professional Certificate reinforces the importance of self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and habits for a positive mind-set. It also introduces computational thinking and the creation of simple yet powerful algorithmic solutions to tackle complex real-world problems. Through five courses, you will learn how to manage emotions, build supportive relationships, perform basic data analysis on Microsoft Excel, and create algorithms to identify and solve problems.

Success: Practical Thinking Skills

This award-winning, practical course helps you succeed in work and life, empowers you with the positive values for a resilient life and equips you with powerful problem-solving skills, demonstrated with the success stories and case studies on how to excel in a job interview and study in higher education. The current version (2.1) contains new materials that show how people/businesses may adopt the creative thinking skills in addressing the new world challenges brought on by COVID-19.

Data and Artificial Intelligence Literacy (1 month)

Professional Certificate in Business Analytics and AI for Finance, Retail and Supply Chain

In this course, you will learn how to identify strategic business questions, acquire data, propose next actions, and monetize the impact of data-driven decision making in the business world. At the end of the programme, you will be equipped with the practical skills of data visualisation and fundamental understanding of machine learning in the industries of Finance, Retail and Supply Chain.

CS50's Computer Science for Business Professionals

In this course, you will master high-level concepts and design decisions related to Computational Thinking, Programming Languages, Internet Technologies, Web Development, Technology Stacks and Cloud Computing.

Analyzing Data with Microsoft Power BI

Through the learning pathways in this course, you will learn to prepare, model, visualize and analyze data; as well as deploy and maintain deliverables.

Professional and Technological Literacy (7 months)

Professional Certificate in FinTech Associate (Level 1)

In this programme, you will gain an understanding of FinTech, the concepts and cases that attribute to its success, key issues faced by various segments of the financial industry, and how these issues are resolved without the need for heavy capital. This programme also discusses the advantages and disadvantages banks have over FinTech organisations. You will gain exposure to the technologies used in the financial industry, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). 

Azure Fundamentals

In this learning path, you will learn cloud concepts; understand the benefits of cloud computing in Azure and how it can save you time and money; compare and contrast basic strategies for transitioning to the Azure cloud; and explore the breadth of services available in Azure.

Deploy a website with Azure virtual machines

In this learning path, you will learn how to create, configure, and manage virtual machines on Linux and Windows that host web apps.

Programming for Everyone (Getting Started with Python)

This course aims to equip you with the basics of how one constructs a program from a series of simple instructions from Python. You will learn to use variables in programs; conditional execution (if statements); repeated execution/ looping (for statements); and functions and code reuse.

JavaScript Introduction

This introductory course has been designed to help Web developers have an understanding of the basic concepts of the language. At the end of the course, you will be able to read the source code of any JavaScript example found on the Web, learn from it, tweak it and start to contribute to open-source JavaScript projects.

Professional Certificate in FinTech Developer (Level 2)

In this programme, you will learn technical programming, frontend and backend, and begin your full stack developer journey. You will also learn various tools and techniques of project management. You will be exposed to web development technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Node JS, ReactJS and data structures that are used in various computational problems. You will also learn the fundamental frameworks of Robotic Process Automation (RPA) to create bots and Application Programming Interface (API) to automate database processes.  This programme provides you with hands-on experience with databases like MySQL and NoSQL.

Applied Scrum for Agile Project Management

In this course, you will start by learning the key project management processes, roles, mechanics, and philosophies behind Scrum. This will provide the basis for understanding Agile in its purest form over four weeks exploring Why, Who, How, and What Scrum looks like, applied in the real world.

Professional Certificate in FinTech Senior Developer (Level 3)

In this programme, you will learn cloud computing concepts and its benefits, as well as the suitability of transitioning offline or internal business processes onto the cloud. You will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to apply Blockchain and Smart Contracts principles for real estate, e-wallets and international payments. You will also gain insight into how machine learning and RPA can be leveraged and how more robust algotrading models can be developed to generate higher returns. 

Project Work

You will embark on a 4-month project to hone skills necessary in the real business world. From Design Thinking on the problem statement, to Specification development, Programming, Roll-out, and testing with User Adoption, you will gain tangible and measurable experience and knowledge in Information Systems (IS) and its practices.
