10 Years of NUS SCALE

Learn for Growth, Learn for Life

In 2016, NUS established the School of Continuing and Lifelong Education on a simple but powerful conviction: that learning does not end at graduation, but is a lifelong pursuit. A decade on, that conviction has shaped thousands of careers, opened new pathways for learners of every age, and embedded lifelong learning at the heart of one of the world's leading universities.

SCALE 10th Anniversary Video

Over the past decade, SCALE has worked with learners, industry partners, public sector partners and the wider NUS community to advance lifelong learning. Our anniversary video reflects on this journey and the impact we have created together.

Did You Know?

When SCALE was founded in 2016, we hosted one undergraduate degree programme. Since then, we have expanded our portfolio to include undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, stackable learning pathways, the Distinguished Senior Fellowship Programme and the Joy of Learning initiative, creating opportunities for learners at every stage of life.

We have also connected learners to opportunities across NUS. Our Postgraduate Fairs have attracted registrants from more than 70 countries, strengthening the University's reach as a global learning destination.

Beyond our own programmes, SCALE has helped enable lifelong learning across NUS. In 2016, just two faculties offered SSG-funded courses. Today, 14 faculties and schools offer more than 550 SSG-funded courses, and over 130,000 training places have been offered over the past decade.

Together, these achievements reflect SCALE's evolution into both a school and a university-wide platform for lifelong learning, creating the conditions for lifelong learning to flourish across NUS.

And One More Thing (Well, Maybe Two)...

We are proud to mark our 10th anniversary with a couple of pieces of news:

  • Our resource centre at University Town has been renamed the Lifelong Education Resource Centre — a name that better reflects our mission and the community it serves.
  • SCALE is also launching two new multidisciplinary Master of Science programmes in Social Impact & Nonprofit Leadership and Social Analytics and AI. Both programmes broaden our postgraduate portfolio beyond technology and venture creation, into the domains of purpose-led leadership and data-driven social insight. The first cohorts are expected to begin classes in August 2027.

We look forward to helping even more learners discover, grow and thrive in the years ahead. Ready to start your lifelong learning journey? To learn how we can help you meet your learning needs and goals, contact us.
