The Professional Certificate in Sustainability for the Built Environment is curated for technical and policy officers focusing on Sustainability & Circularity (S&C) topics. The four short courses that stack towards the Professional Certificate will focus on upskilling officers on embedded and operational carbon, smart FM, and applying carbon-light solutions in the BE value chain.

Below you’ll find answers to the most common questions raised which may help you understand more about the course. 

PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATE

QN: What is a Professional Certificate?

ANS: A Professional Certificate comprises of non-credit bearing short courses that enable participants to acquire industry-relevant knowledge and skills in a particular subject area. QN: How do I receive the Professional Certificate?

ANS: You would have to complete all four courses within 18 months, and email cde_cet@nus.edu.sg with the e-certificates of completion for all four courses. NUS will send you the e-certificate for the Professional Certificate after verification.

APPLICATION

QN: I am interested in the module(s) but I am unable to attend on one of the days. What do I do?

ANS: We strongly encourage full participation in the module to ensure that you get the most out of the content. Kindly refer to the individual course website to find out the next course runs dates.


QN: I may not be exactly the target audience this course seeks, as my core capabilities lies elsewhere, however I am interested to participate as it is relevant to a sustainability project I am working on. Can I still sign up?

ANS: We welcome any officers who are interested to upskill your capabilities in Sustainability & Circularity (S&C) for the Built Environment domain. The target audience is only a guidance of who we think would benefit the most from the course.


QN: What are the possible reason(s) for not being allocated a spot for the selected course(s)?

ANS: While we strive to allocate on a first-come-first-serve basis, he organizer aims to balance the profile of the participants in each course to optimize the level of discussion. There are various reasons as to why your selected course was not allocated to you. It could be because:
• Courses are oversubscribed (no more vacancy)
• Courses are oversubscribed (within your agency/ division)
• You have not obtained management’s approval to attend the course


QN: What is the modality of the course?

ANS: The courses are held in-person at the NUS Kent Ridge Campus. Please note that the location of the modules differs and you should always check the information provided in your confirmation email from NUS.


QN: What are the course requirements?

ANS: You will have to achieve a minimum 75% attendance and pass the end-of-course assessment to receive the Certificate of Completion.


QN: Can I take one or two courses only, if I am not interested to receive the Professional Certificate?

ANS: The courses are available as standalone courses, and you can choose to take those that are relevant or of interest to you. You will receive a Certificate of Completion for each course, after fulfilling the attendance and assessment requirements.

REGISTRATION

QN: How do I apply and register for the course? 

ANS: To proceed with your application as a self-paying participant, please complete your registration via our Online Application Portal via this link. (Search for each short course and apply accordingly.) 

Once you have complete the registration, you will receive an email to review and acknowledge that your details and course application is accurate. 

NUS course coordinator will contact you closer to the course commencement date to provide the programme details. 


QN: I have submitted my name to my HR/ HR agency to register for this course on my behalf. Do I need to still self-register?

ANS: We will be liaising with the HR personnel/agency to initiate the registration process. Subsequently, NUS course coordinator will be reaching out to you complete the registration and accept the declaration. 

Once you have complete the registration, you will receive an email to review and acknowledge that your details and course application is accurate. 

NUS course coordinator will contact you closer to the course commencement date to provide the programme details. 
 
If you will be sponsored by your organisation to attend the course, kindly obtain approval from your organisation to attend the course. 

SSG Funding

QN: How is this course funded? Is there any subsidy?

ANS: SkillsFuture Funding is now available for all four courses; eligible Singapore citizens and permanent residents will receive 70% to 90% of funding subsidy from SSG. Please check the respective course details or more information.

Individuals who are self-sponsored are eligible to apply for SkillsFuture Credit (SFC) claims. Individuals who are company-sponsored are not allowed to use SFC to pay (either in full or partially) for the courses.

CPD POINTS

QN: I am a member of the Professional Engineers Board (PEB) and would like to apply for CPD points from the courses that I have attended. How can I do so?

ANS: Please provide your PE (Professional Engineers) Registration Number and Name in FULL to Jacqueline Teo mmjact@nus.edu.sg who will assist to submit your attendance to PEB. Currently, Embodied Carbon and Life Cycle Assessment (12 PDUs) and Operational Carbon and Smart Facilities Management (18 PDUs) have been approved in PEB.

OTHERS

QN: I could not attend last minute because I am unwell. What should I do and who should I inform? 

ANS: You should inform the course coordinator immediately via email at cde-cet@nus.edu.sg and sgprogrammes@nus.edu.sg. The cases will be dealt with individually (i.e. NUS can assist to convert the course to hybrid mode for that specific individual or convert the rest of the course virtually if there is a high volume of positive cases).
