By DSFP Candidate, Connie Tsang
When I decided to join the Distinguished Senior Fellowship Programme (DSFP) at the National University of Singapore, I was seeking more than just a learning experience. I was looking for a renewed sense of purpose — a meaningful way to stay intellectually curious, socially engaged, and personally fulfilled in what I see as the ‘Third Transition’ of life.
After more than two decades in the corporate world, I began reflecting on what it truly means to live well and live long, especially as life expectancy continues to rise and living to 100 may soon become a reality. For me, longevity is not only about the number of years, but about vitality, curiosity and contribution. I was honoured to be accepted into the DSFP, an ideal platform to explore this next chapter.
Learning that sparks curiosity and clarity
From the very beginning, I was energised by the breadth and depth of topics we explored, and by the opportunity to learn from world-class professors at NUS. Their intellectual depth and ability to translate complex theories into practical insights have been truly inspiring. The way they distil challenging ideas into relevant, bite-sized lessons for senior leaders is remarkable. Every lecture left me with new questions to ponder and fresh connections to explore. I came away not only better informed, but also more thoughtful and self-aware.
A cornerstone of the programme has been the Purpose Project, which offers a structured framework to transform a vague idea into a clearly defined initiative for sustainable social impact. For me, this process became a deeply personal journey of reflection — a chance to reconnect with my younger self and the values that once guided my choices.
Through guided reflection, I found myself asking: What would my younger self expect of me today? What do I want to give, to build, to change?
That inner dialogue — between who I was and who I have become — has been both grounding and liberating. It helped me rediscover a deeper purpose: to channel my experience and networks into initiatives that support ageing with dignity and connection, particularly for those at risk of social isolation or cognitive decline.
The DSFP framework provided the clarity and structure to turn this vision into an actionable, impactful project. I am deeply grateful to have connected with like-minded fellows who share a similar vision and commitment to work together on this cause.
Community that inspires growth
Equally enriching has been the sense of community within DSFP. Conversations with peers over coffee breaks and group projects often sparked some of the most stimulating exchanges.
The cohort is an extraordinary mix of experienced leaders from diverse fields — each bringing unique perspectives shaped by decades of experience, yet united by a common purpose: to give back to society in meaningful ways. We support and challenge one another, pushing ideas further while respecting our differences. It is rare to find such a learning environment where generosity of thought and purpose outweigh competition.
As I enter the final two weeks of the programme and reflect on this journey, I am grateful for the professors who stretch our minds, the peers who enrich our learning, and the space that DSFP provides to think deeply about who we are, what we value, and how we can serve.
DSFP has given me not only knowledge, but also perspective — and the privilege of being part of a community that values wisdom, empathy and action.
In many ways, DSFP has become more than a learning experience; it is a laboratory for purposeful living.
It reminds me that learning, connection and purpose are the true markers of growth at every stage of life. It has reinforced my belief that thriving to 100 is not only about health and longevity, but also about staying curious, connected and contributive — guiding me to build a life that remains vibrant in both mind and meaning, long into the years ahead in my ‘Third Transition’ of life.
For Connie, the DSFP opened a new chapter of meaning and possibility. On 17 November 2025 (Mon), she joins other Fellows from the inaugural cohort at the DSFP Preview to share how this journey has reshaped the way they learn, connect and lead in their Third Transition. Discover how it could inspire yours — register for the Preview by 4 November 2025 on our website.
