LIFELONG LEARNING (L3) PATHWAY

The L3 Pathway offers applicants the opportunity to preview the Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) programme by enrolling in two foundational courses before committing to the full degree. These courses are taken alongside current BIT students during the semester. The grades and units earned from these courses may be considered for admission into the BIT degree programme and can be carried forward into the BIT http://student candidature upon admission.

The two foundational courses that must be completed in sequential order are:

  • TCX1001 Introduction to Computing
This course introduces students to basic computing principles, including abstraction and composition, while providing a broad introduction to the field of computer science, including computer organisation, operating systems, data management and distributed applications. It will introduce students to basic programming methodologies and problem-solving techniques through a simple structured programming language.
  • TCX1002 Introduction to Programming
This course introduces the fundamental concepts of problem-solving by programming. Topics covered include problem-solving by computing, writing pseudo-codes and basic problem formulation. Students will develop programs, test and debug their programs, as well as learn fundamental programming constructs (variables, types, expressions, assignments, functions, control structures, etc.), fundamental data structures (arrays, strings and structures), simple file processing and basic recursion. Students will be introduced to the object-oriented programming paradigm as a powerful way of composing reusable components to form larger, more complex programs.

Both courses are funded by SkillsFuture (SSG), and applicants may use their SkillsFuture Credits to offset the course fees. Upon completion of each course, learners will receive a Certificate of Competence or Certificate of Participation, depending on performance.

To be considered for admission into the BIT programme through this pathway, applicants must achieve a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 (out of 5.0, based on the NUS grading system) for the two courses.
