Course Objectives

With the dawn of the 5G era, new use cases for the technology are emerging as consumers and enterprises set to work on identifying processes and channels that will boost the efficiency of their lives and their businesses. Wireless connectivity is at the centre of this technological revolution. New business opportunities are opening up – both for those that have traditionally participated in the value chain, such as telecom operators, and for newcomers from other industries.

This course aims to:

  • Provide a fundamental understanding of 5G technology, how it will impact and transform various industry verticals, and new business use cases.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Think through and come out with new business ideas that can potentially create new revenue streams or better efficiencies with 5G.

Mr. Jim Lim Shien Min 

 

Jim Lim Shien Min is the founder of 59stVentures, a socio-techno network focusing on leveraging expertise, experiences and connections of senior executives globally to contribute back to the society. He is currently also the healthcare sector lead for NCS tasked to build digital healthcare ecosystem and to expand NCS footprint regionally. Jim also sits in the board of start-up companies in China, Taiwan, Singapore and India. Prior to this, he was CEO for Good Doctor Technology, a Joint-Venture between PingAn Good Doctor from China and Grab. He joined the company as first employee to setup the entire business in Indonesia and Singapore. Jim is currently also adjunct lecturer for NUS, SUSS, Huawei University and FinTech Academy.

Before Good Doctor, Jim was the Global Senior Director in Group Chief Transformation Office in Huawei Technologies and its Regional Chief Technology Officer for strategic digital transformation projects in APAC, focusing on digital transformation cross industries (e.g. Telco, Smart Nation/City, Retail, Healthcare, Logistics, Agriculture), domains (e.g. Cloud, IoT, Big Data, Mobile Money, Connectivity) and aspects (e.g. Business Modelling, Customer Journey, Design Thinking, Org. Change).

Prior to joining Huawei, Jim was the CBE (Client Business Executive) in Amdocs with full P&L responsibilities from sales, delivery and operations. Jim was with Amdocs for 9 years and was previously the Senior Director, Business Strategy and Sales Engineering in APAC, whom setup the regional delivery team; responsible for all accounts presales and strategic business development activities within Amdocs APAC. Jim was Techmahindra Presales and Delivery Group Head for APAC who set up its regional delivery centers and presales teams. Jim also established partnership with other vendors such as Huawei and Oracle while serving as Country Manager for Greater China. Prior to this role, Jim was Project and JV Manager and Senior Consultant in Accenture, with solid experiences in large-scale business transformation programs in SingTel, Telekom Malaysia and Starhub.

With 20+ years of high tech and ICT industry experiences in Business, Customer & Project Management, Jim has proven track records in exceeding client/partners expectations and strong in providing business and strategic advice to complement the technicality of the initiatives and programs.

Jim holds a MBA (Distinctions) from Manchester Business School (UK) and B. Eng (Hons) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Nanyang Technological University (Singapore). Jim is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a seasoned company spokesman for media and analysts. Jim is currently the Vice President for Cloud Security Alliance Singapore Chapter, a global mentor for PingAn Technology Innovation Center, an industry mentor for ICT with Young NTUC, a Senior Fellow appointed by Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) and an Executive Education Fellow appointed by National University of Singapore (NUS).

Singapore Citizens or Singapore PRs must pass all assessment components to be eligible for SSG funding.

2. Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy (MCES) - Singaporeans aged 40 and above may enjoy subsidies up to 90% of the programme fee. 

3. Enhanced Training Support for SMEs (ETSS) - SME-sponsored employees (Singaporean Citizens and PRs) may enjoy subsidies up to 90% of the programme fee. https://www.skillsfuture.gov.sg/initiatives/employers/enhanced-training-support-for-smes for more information.

4. Eligible organisations may claim absentee payroll funding for Singaporean Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents attending SSG-approved courses during working hours. The absentee payroll funding is capped at $4.50 per hour and at $100,000 per enterprise per calendar year.

5. Trainees under the Workfare Skills Support scheme may be eligible for absentee payroll funding of up to 95% hourly basis salary, capped at $13 per hour.

6. Companies eligible for absentee payroll will be required to log into the Enterprise Portal for Jobs and Skills (EPJS) to process the claims.

7. NTUC Enhanced Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP) - NTUC members enjoy 50% of the unfunded course fee support of up to $250 each year for courses supported under UTAP (Union Training Assistance Programme).
