NUS SCALE Professional Certificates in Placemaking

Placemaking PC 1

Placemaking is to actively plan, design and manage public spaces. The values created by Placemaking can be emotional and immeasurable, or tangible and financial. By creating a place the generates positive experiences, professionals with placemaking knowledge can transform the future of people and organisations in town centres, neighborhoods, malls, and public or industrial buildings.

NUS is now making this knowledge available through Professional Certificates that have been designed and developed for adult learners and working professionals. The courses they contain are suitable for both industry and government officers who wish to strengthen their ability to engage customers and community members. With these qualifications, you will be equipped to create attractive and prospering places and communities.

Supported by the Urban Redevelopment Authority and Ministry of Culture, Community & Youth, the National University of Singapore has launched two Professional Certificates in Placemaking – a Professional Certificate in Placemaking for Vibrant Places and a Professional Certificate in Placemaking for Community Management. Courses are taught by experts from across the university’s knowledge-rich faculties including College of Design and Engineering, College of Humanities and Sciences, and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. The Professional Certificates in Placemaking are customised to the needs and requirements of working individuals who wish to design, develop and enhance public places and experiences.

What you can expect

The PCs offer working professionals the opportunity to deepen their understanding of placemaking at their own pace while gaining a recognised certification. The PCs have been designed to allow for flexibility in course selection and scheduling options. Learners can choose which skills to focus on and prioritise them in the pursuit of each PC, thereby aligning the PCs with the needs of their work. The PCs in Placemaking allow you to support your employer, team and end customers – all while enhancing your career prospects.

The PCs provide learners with a bundle of skills that are associated with key aspects of placemaking, such as ideation and creation of places and events in an urban environment, or planning and managing a place to maximise community engagement. Courses are designed to be experiential and engaging. They include case studies, site visits and group work activities that show Singaporean and international locations from a new perspective.
