The NUS MSc in Venture Creation: immersive experiential learning at Asia's top university
2 December 2019 – Designed to transform mindsets and accelerate ideas into solutions, the Master of Science (MSc) in Venture Creation by the National University of Singapore (NUS) is a graduate degree that combines experiential learning with academic rigour.
It provides aspiring business owners with a deep dive into entrepreneurship, and a strong technical foundation by leveraging on the expertise of six NUS faculties and schools: NUS Business School, NUS Computing, NUS Engineering, NUS Science, NUS SCALE and the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
As part of the curriculum, students will be involved in a semester-long internship at a start-up, that will allow them to learn first-hand about starting a business, and to forge a network of collaborators with members of the community.
They will also access the global market through the university’s overseas partners and start-up hub BlOCK71, along with expanding their horizons through field visits to leading entrepreneurial hubs around the world.
Innovation and entrepreneurship know-how
The MSc in Venture Creation taps on the expertise of NUS Enterprise, the university’s entrepreneurial arm, to support students through mentorship in business development and networking opportunities for market penetration.
For the past 20 years, NUS Enterprise has played a leading role in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in the university, including spearheading flagship initiatives such as BLOCK71 and the NUS Overseas Colleges.
NUS Enterprise has been pivotal in developing Singapore’s start-up ecosystem, and has helped built a community of over 1,000 start-ups over the years, most notably, Carousell, Shopback, Patsnap, Visenze, Zimplistic, and Zopim.
It has also partnered with more than 200 organisations to co-innovate solutions, of which some include Google, Singapore Airlines, Huawei, L'Oréal, Alipay, and Ascendas Singbridge.
